Bicchoo-nonsense

I think that people in the Health Ministry now-a-days have no pressing matter on their hands coz that's why they have come up with the idea of replacing the skull-and-bone symbol on the packets of cigarettes by a scorpion. If these people are to be believed, the bicchoo would frighten people far more than the skull-&-bone combo. The scorpion would be there for 6-12 months after which it may be replaced by a more dangerous image (wonder, what would come next....The Mummy???)

Fear appeals are supposed to have the most intense imapct. But, i guess we are too familiar with the scorpion and 'skull-bones' symbols for them to have any effect on us.

i agree with Dhiman that symbols are not going to have any effect. The very idea of using symbols is to give indirect and subtle message! how can they induce fear anyway? perhaps our health ministry is too fearful of reality...of the sight of a body decaying with oral/ lung cancer!

reality bites more than anything else, more than any scorpion!

Somebody please ask our ministers and people to face reality.

is it required to make any differences? is smoking required to be stopped?....symbol is not a big deal..we all are aware of the effects arising out of smoking..but just cant think of leaving it...

Who said, people aren't frightened of symbols? But scorpions will hardly make any difference. As I suggested to Mr. Ramadoss, a picture of Sonali smiling would have had a far greater effect! But he said, it would take a long time for permission, negotiations and so on.... so the poor invertebrate took the centrestage!
