Chorbagan Sarbojanin - Where the Festive Fervor Turned Into a Killer Stampede

19 people dead, 25 injured. The headline jolted me yesterday morning. Durga Puja, from being Bengal’s favorite festive season, has suddenly turned into a mourning session overnight. As I was busy celebrating and catching up with friends, I had no idea how the tragic scenario unfolded on Saturday night at that Chorbagan puja pandal. It was just early morning yesterday that I learned about it. And the images that are doing the rounds on the Internet would make a chill run down your spine for sure.

There will be a lot of discussions on who’s to blame; some will be arrested (a few already are), and politicians will pass the ball around. But the people who have died in the tragedy and the families that have lost their loved ones will never be the same. And no amount of compensation can bring a life back. That’s the reality.

In India, human life (unless it’s of a VIP or VVIP) is indeed CHEAP…. VERY CHEAP. 😞
