Then: Getting into writing without a plan or strategy was how my journey as a freelance writer began. I've always loved reading and was the kind of person who would devour anything I could lay my hands on, from magazines and storybooks to leaflets, flyers, and even the text on milk cartons.
The written word has always fascinated me. It has made me laugh, stirred my imagination, and, at times, brought me to tears.
Over the years, I've learned a great deal, honed my writing chops, and rebuilt my professional life around it.
I don't regret leaving my job as an educator because writing has given me so much in return: flexibility, freedom, and, quite unexpectedly, even my husband. 😜
Now: I'm still writing, and it's incredible how almost two decades have flown by. It feels like only yesterday that I spotted a newspaper advertisement for a freelance writer, applied on a whim, and began what was simply meant to be a side gig for some extra income.
I can't pinpoint the exact moment when that side hustle became a passion or when I found the courage to leave my job and embrace freelancing full-time. Those milestones were never marked on a calendar. They unfolded quietly, one assignment, one lesson, and one leap of faith at a time.
And as
this journey continues, I can honestly say I'm still loving every second of it.
